Past Seasons

Season 2007
As we look back over the past seven seasons I see that this Club has grown very quickly that a number of things will be changing in 2008 to keep our growth maintained in the values & vision that we have gone by in previous years of this young club. The way we will see this happening is with a new Board Structure & new Constitution to be put in place.

This was the most successful year to date on the field.

A couple of other highlights we had in 2007 came from our Events that we had.

Cypress Lakes saw 60 Waverley Old Boys FC players go up to the Hunter Valley and stay Friday & Saturday night and take part in matches against Lochinvar Rovers (Friday Night) & Cessnock City Hornets (Saturday) which we will make as an annual event.

Trivia Night saw 230 players & friends attend our very first trivia night. This night was extremely successful for the social side & the fund raising side and the club will definitely look at holding this event for 2008 and beyond.

Presentation Night saw 170 players and special guests attend our first formal Presentation Night.

WOBFC will have JUNIORS in 2008

This came into place after discussions between Waverley Old Boys Football Club, Emma Knight & John Dicks from Coogee Prep School in Randwick to take over their junior set up for the 2008 season and beyond. We presented a welcome pack to all the parents at the CPS Soccer Presentation where Mark Ambour got up and spoke to the parents & the boys about what Waverley Old Boys FC would be doing in 2008 for their children in their development of the great game of Football.

2008 promises to be another great year with much more hard work to be done as the club will be going through a transition period.

Season 2006
To commence, the 2006 season was another great success with two grand finalists with one winning the Cup; and the World Cup in Germany was a highlight for the entire club to finally watch the Socceroos take on the world.

We are continually looking for new club members and sponsors to join up from now for season 2007. The easiest way to become a member is to go to the Waverley Old Boys Football Club website www.waverleyoldboys.com and become a member online.

On behalf of the club I would like to thank and congratulate everyone that has been involved with Waverley Old Boys Football Club in 2006. I look forward to what 2007 has to offer us and am confident that we can build on the success we have had this year.

Season 2005
To commence, the 2005 season was another great success with two grand finalists with one winning the cup.

Head Coach Alex Augusto took on his third year at the helm. We made the massive leap to the AA1 competition where we would finally have a crack at the top of the ESFA competitions. Club President, Mark Ambour, took over from James Georgiadis at the helm of the SW1’s. There was also the addition of a new Women’s team to the club, the SW2’s coached by Chris Tobin.

Our three major sponsors in 2005 were Parade Jewellers, who have been sponsoring the club since its inauguration in 2001, Trinity Bar & Ogalo Kensington. With continued support like these valuable sponsors have offered us, the club will definitely have a long future!

Season 2004
To commence, it would be safe to say that Season 2004 was another big year for Waverley Old Boys Football Club, with success both on and off the field.

Head Coach Alex Augusto took on his second year at the helm. There were a lot of new faces to the club, the most notable one being Jorge Abrantes who became our AA2 Assistant Coach and AA5 Coach. Jorge came to the club with his experience of working with other football clubs such as Sydney Olympic. This new coaching partnership paved the way for another great year for the AA2’s. Our new SW1 Coach, James Georgiadis, took over from Michael Antonas. The enthusiasm from Georgiadis rubbed off on the girls who excelled yet again this year.

Our three major sponsors in 2004 were Parade Jewellers, Maroubra Junction Hotel & BAS Central, who offer bookkeeping and office administration services for small to medium businesses. With continued support like these valuable sponsors have offered us, the club will definitely have a long future!

Season 2003
To commence it would be safe to say that season 2003 was the most rewarding, and successful both on and off the field. The first major step the club took in 2003 was forming another two sides, one being a non-training AA7 side, which only played on Sunday’s against other clubs, in the Eastern Suburbs Football Association.

The other side being our SW1 team, which consisted of family members, partners, friends and some new faces.

With the appointment of a new Head Coach in Alex Augusto to look after the clubs AA2 side and the development of all the boys as a whole, the season looked like a fruitful one. Christian Garcia (Class of ‘96) took the position of Player/Coach for our AA5’s. While Michael Antonas (Class of ‘96) looked after the SW1 team.

Some of the other additions to the club this year was the long awaited Waverley Old Boys Football Club website, which definitely proved to be a huge success to all members, and interested onlookers. The website offered a whole range of things to keep people interested. Some of the most popular things on the website, was the Interactive Link, Sponsors Link, Events Link, Matches Link and everyone’s favourite, the Player Profile’s. There are so many additions that will come to the website for Season 2004, so look out for them.

Our two major sponsors this year were Parade Jewellers, who have been sponsoring the club since its inauguration and Maroubra Junction Hotel, which became the Club House. With support like this off the field the club will definitely have a long future.

Six-a-side commenced in October, where we have three teams playing on Wednesday nights at Little Bay Sports Complex. Our Men's side is headed by Andrew de Bruijn. Elisabeth Ambour heads our Women’s side and our Mixed side is headed by Club Captain, Michael Pelosi. With all teams having a good chance of doing well, more good results are headed our way on the field in 2003.

We hope to build even further on the success we had this year and are looking for members to join up from now for Season 2004. The easiest way to become a member is to go to the Waverley Old Boys Football Club website www.waverleyoldboys.com and become a member online. You will then be contacted about a number of things, so go and check it out.

Season 2002
By beginning, it would only be correct by saying that our Boys & Girls six-a-side teams both took out the 2002 Summer Competitions. What an absolutely triumphant effort!

It was a long and gruelling journey beginning in January with our new coach, Alex Imvriotis. Our trial games commenced early in February through to the beginning of the competition in March, including our annual match against archrivals Barker Old Boys.

Heffron Park was established as our official training ground, which provided us with great facilities and room for expansion in future years.

Season 2002 saw two definite highlights; our AA2 4-1 victory over Redfern with only 10 men for 75 minutes of the game and the 3-2 aggregate win over Waverley College in the inaugural Waverley Challenge Cup, with Johnny Warren being present on the day to award the cup to the winners.

Season 2001
The Proposal
A proposal was set up and presented to the various hierarchies within Waverley College, the headmaster of the college, Rev B.J. Wallace and the College Football Supporters Club. Thankfully, the proposal received full support from both parties and was the first step of many for our inaugural year.

The Formation
A challenging step! Two teams were formed with each consisting of sixteen quality squad members, hence making us eligible to be part of the Eastern Suburbs Football Association. (ESFA)

Club Launch Evening
The launch proved to be a huge success! The function was held at One World Sport, Darling Harbour on the 18th May 2001. The evening was a joint fundraiser for the club and the NSW Breast Cancer Institute. The 200 strong crowd enjoyed the evening followed by many sore heads the following morning.

Finally, a big thank you to Parade Jewellers for donating the first prize of $1000 for the evening’s raffle.

In Summary
I would just like to conclude by saying that our inaugural year was a total success and that it was a pleasure to be amongst such great people.

Special thanks goes to Vice Chairman, Michael Kavourakis. Without him we would not be sitting here today.

Extended thanks also to Victor Ziade. His help throughout the season took a lot of pressure off all involved.

Also thanks to Parade Jewellers for their support through the year.
